The Coaching Period

The initial coaching session is generally for an hour period. It is important to clearly understand where you, as the client, want to go and what might be stopping you from getting there. It is also vital to understand your values and what you hold as important in your life. It is also important to understand your life context.

Subsequent sessions are usually for 30 - 60 minutes.

While some clients like to meet weekly, others prefer fortnightly while still others prefer monthly. Occasionally, a few of my clients prefer talking every 6 weeks. Some also prefer a combination of meeting frequency.

Sessions can be either face-to-face, via the telephone or via Skype. In between formal sessions, clients sometimes call me briefly if they want to share a particular success or need specific advice, but these calls are short in duration from 5 to 10 minutes. Alternatively, clients might e-mail me if they have something significant to share. These times of touching bases are just part of the overall process.

While some of my clients like formal agreements in terms of how long we meet, experience shows that most clients commit to coaching for a minimum of 6 months. The benefits of coaching build significantly over time.

Commit to yourself to make this period as valuable as possible.
